🌾 Gluten-free by ingredient. Every ingredient in this recipe was checked against our strict gluten-free list. It has not been test-cooked or lab-tested. Ingredients

  • 2 kg ripe Concord or other dark grapes, stemmed
  • 60 ml water (¼ cup)
  • 300 g sugar (about 1 ½ cups), or to taste

Method

  1. Put the grapes and water in a large stainless-steel or enamel pot and heat gently, mashing now and then, until the skins burst and the pulp comes away from the seeds.
  2. Strain through a jelly bag or a sieve lined with cheesecloth.
  3. Return the juice to the pot with the sugar and bring it just to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Cool, pour into clean bottles and refrigerate. Use within a week. Dilute half and half with cold water to serve.

The original was bottled for keeping in a pantry. For long storage, follow a tested home-canning method.
